FEEDING YOUR NEW KITTEN:
Please consult with your own vet as to what to feed your kitten as each kitten’s needs may be different. Here though I want to discuss how I feed my own kittens. In order to prevent constipation and keep kitten healthy, I feed both wet and dry food- but not combined in same bowl. My kittens have dry food to snack on at all times. I use the good quality brand Royal Canine Weaning dry food and when they reach 2 months I switch to Royal Canine Junior food. I also use a good quality canned baby food like Applaws or Brit. These are sold only in pet supply stores. If shopping in a grocery store choose a high quality brand such as Royale or Sheba for your kitten. At least twice a day I give my kittens wet food. Please do not leave the wet food out for over 1 hour as it can spoil, causing vomiting. Always leave a bowl of water. If you are going to switch your kitten from one food to another, introduce the new one slowly over a one week period or it can cause vomiting and runny poo. Lastly each day I like to use a supplement like DMG from vets to make sure my kittens are in the best possible health. If your kitten does not like to drink (mine doesn’t), I give canned wet food every 3 to 4 hours combined half food and half warm water.
